Detecting the Signs of Cancer Early

We have looked at our referral rates over the last 3 months and are very aware that, as with most of the country, our rates of referral for suspected cancer are much lower than we would expect.

Please do contact us if you have any worrying symptoms and if you are unsure please take a look at the link and video from Cancer Research which will tell you what to look out for.

Please see a GP if you are concerned.

National GPDPR Opt-Out

From the 1st July, the NHS will change how it shares your GP medical records. The General Practice Data for Planning and Research Data extract by NHS digital from GP practices across England will help the NHS to improve health and care services for everyone, by collecting patient data and holding it in a central national database.

This is an upgrade to an existing similar process called GPES- General Practice Extract Service , this new data collection will be more efficient, effective and much more frequent.

For example, patient data held in this new national data base can help the NHS to :

  • Monitor the long term safety and effectiveness of care.
  • Plan how to deliver better health and care services.
  • Prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
  • Identify new treatments and medicines through health research.

If you would not like your GP data shared with NHS digital using GPDPR, you need to register an OPT OUT with your GP practice. In this article we explain:

  • How the OPT OUT works.
  • What you might want to consider before making a decision.

Visit for more information to help you decide, and download an Opt-Out form.

Appointments & ringing the Practice

With the lockdown restrictions beginning to ease we are now offering more face t o face appointments for those patients who the doctor will need to examine.  The receptionist will need to ask you for some information first and will then either book you for a face to face appointment or for a telephone call.

From April 2021 Annual Chronic Disease Reviews have now resumed. However you will be only required to attend the surgery for your blood tests, foot checks and blood pressure.  Once these are carried out your Annual Chronic Disease Review will be carried out over the telephone by either a Doctor or Practice Nurse.

To keep patients to a minimum coming down to the Practice we are asking if you need to order /or collect prescriptions please sign up to a Pharmacy of your choice so we can send your prescription directly to that Pharmacy. The majority of Pharmacies can order your prescription. Alternatively you can order your prescription yourself by registering with the NHS App, SystmOne online or emailing the Practice at – Use link above for SystmOne Online.

This would be really helpful to you, the practice and the public.
